Risk Awareness
Intelligence on terrorism and other emerging related perils, with (Re)insurers, Government, brokers and the business community to provide education on risk and threat assessment, to help drive distribution.

To provide timely, accurate and credible information which assists in the closure of the terrorism intelligence gap through industry leading qualitative and quantitative analysis across the full spectrum of terrorist actors and methodologies..

Regular qualitative and quantitative threat reporting already undertaken by our Risk Awareness team, and will include:

  • Supporting our cutting-edge actuarial modelling with data and analysis from Pool Re’s Terrorism Database.
  • Leveraging our strong partnerships with specialist think tanks and leading universities such as Cranfield and the Judge Business School at Cambridge to play an active role in promoting a thorough understanding of contemporary terrorist techniques, technologies and tactics, and the associated economic consequences caused by terrorism incidents.
  • Leveraging our strong relationships across government, in particular the Home Office and Counter Terrorism Police, to amplify the products and services of our ground-breaking partnership, the Information Sharing Platform.
  • Using insights from our international collaboration with other terrorism reinsurance pools around the world to inform our view of the global risk and how to manage it most effectively..

Our joint initiative with the Home Office, the Information Sharing Platform, will leverage Pool Re’s privileged position between the government and industry to amplify and disseminate the expertise of the Counter Terrorism Police and MI5 through the industry and into UK plc. The Platform will meet a longstanding need and desire from the private sector for more credible, quality and timely information to be used in their protective security and resilience planning.

The International Forum for Terrorism Risk (Re)Insurance Pools, or IFTRIP, was founded in 2015 under the guidance of Pool Re, which acts as current Secretariat. The inaugural Congress was held in London that year, followed by Canberra in 2016, Paris in 2017, and Moscow in 2018 and Brussels this year.

IFTRIP aims to:

  • Share best practice in order to achieve a common approach for the reinsurance of terrorism and bridge gaps in the terrorism insurance market
  • Foster debate, insight and research on a complex threat, and enable the insurance community to build resilience.
  • Limit economic losses through promoting proven risk management and mitigation techniques and practices.
