A Director since July 2008 and Chair of the Investment Committee. Alan is a former Director and Group Chief Investment Officer of Schroders PLC. He is Chairman of the Carbon Disclosure Project and Non-executive Director and Chairman of the management committee of Artemis Investment Management LLP.
Director and Chair of the Remuneration, Nominations and Conflicts Committee. Until June 2019, Denise was a corporate finance lawyer, and Client Development Partner at Eversheds Sutherland LLP, where she is now a consultant. Formerly she was Company Secretary and General Counsel of Asda Group plc. She is the Senior Independent Director of Bellway plc, Senior Independent Director at Y2019 Limited, Chairman of St Giles Trust and Pro Chancellor and Chair of Council of the University of York.
A Director since May 2015. Chief Executive of Hiscox since 2000 and Group Managing Director since 1993. Prior to joining Hiscox Mr Masojada worked at McKinsey & Company, the management consulting firm. Between 2001 and 2007 he served as Deputy Chairman of Lloyd’s. He has been a member of the ABI Board since 2012.
Maurice is Chief Executive Officer Aviva plc. Previously Chief Executive Officer of Aviva International, Aviva’s UK & Ireland General Insurance business from October 2013 to January 2016, Chairman of Global General Insurance since July 2014, and a member of the Group Executive Committee since July 2012. Prior to appointment as Chief Executive Officer, Mr Tulloch held the role of Chief Executive Officer of Aviva Canada from November 2009. Previous member of the ABI Board, and prior Chair of the General Insurance Council.
Barbara, Chair of the Risk & Audit Committee, is a Chartered Accountant. Formerly she was a general manager in the Corporation of Lloyd’s, then managing director of Omega Underwriting and CEO of Hardy Underwriting Group from 2002 to 2014. Now she is a Non-Executive Director with Domestic & General, Ed Broking LLP and Argus Group and also chair of start-up Lloyd’s broker Parker, Norfolk and Partners.
Alan, who is chair of the board of NHBC (the leading warranty and insurance provider for new homes in the UK), has over thirty years’ experience in pensions, insurance, asset management and investment banking. He was chief executive of the Pension Protection Fund between 2009 and 2018, protecting the pension entitlements of approximately 11 million members of Defined Benefit Schemes in the UK. Alan is also a non executive director at esure Group plc and a trustee director and chair of the Investment Sub-committee for the British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme.
Claudio became chief executive officer in September 2018, with responsibility for oversight of all AXA’s business activities in the UK and Ireland. He previously served as chief strategic officer for the AXA Group.
A Swiss national, he began his career as a management consultant, working for Accenture and later McKinsey & Company. He entered the insurance industry in 2008 by joining Zurich, where he held a number of senior positions including chief strategy officer for Zurich Group and CEO of the Zurich Life Insurance Company.
Claudio has a master’s degree in environmental engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and he speaks five languages. In addition to his role at AXA, he’ is vice chair of the board for the Swiss insurance start-up JAROWA and is a member of the Advisory Board for the AXA Research Fund. He also attends and is a member of the University of Oxford Vice-Chancellor’s Circle, as part of his work with the AXA Research Fund.
Dame Sue Owen DCB is an economist with over 30 years’ experience in government, including 14 at Treasury. She led the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport from 2013-19, having also worked in the British Embassy Washington, No10, International Development and as Strategy Director General in Work & Pensions overseeing a £200bn budget. She has considerable experience of governance, making public Board chair appointments including at the BBC, C4, Ofcom, Gambling Commission, Tate. Sue is perhaps best known for her inclusive leadership, having raised staff engagement at DCMS from 45% in 2012 to 70% in 2018. She chaired the civil service charity, and championed diversity throughout her career, becoming overall civil service diversity champion. Having retired from the civil service in 2019, she now chairs the Governors of the Royal Ballet, and is a non-executive Director at Pool Re, Pool Re Nuclear, Serco plc, Pantheon International plc, Methera Global Communications & Opera Holland Park. She is a part time specialist partner at Flint-Global.
