POOL REINSURANCE
OUR ESG COMMITMENT
We’ve integrated and embedded sustainability throughout our business – from governance to operations and culture, to performance and results. We are committed to be a responsible organisation, integrating environmental, social and governance factors into our investment process. We aim to engage actively with our stakeholders to achieve our collective ESG responsibilities and ambitions.
our MISSION STATEMENT
As a reinsurer of terrorism risk, Pool Re’s purpose is founded on the principle of offering a societal benefit and to help support Great Britain as a safe and secure place in which to live, work and invest. In the event of a terrorism claim, we seek to support our Member insurers, to ensure claims are paid promptly and enable the fastest recovery possible for those affected. Pool Re is dedicated to all our colleagues and is committed to operating responsibly. Our corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts are a core element of our goal to be a high quality and well-respected reinsurance company.
Pool Re exists to provide confidence and resilience in the British economy, and to protect businesses, communities, and livelihoods in Great Britain from the financial consequences of terrorism. Building a sustainable and resilient future in the face of complex global risks is in our DNA as a company. Our unusual position between the government and the insurance market is a privilege but also a responsibility, and we are committed to supporting the necessary transition to a greener, more resilient, fairer economy in Great Britain and globally.
– Angela Knight CBE, Chair and Tom Clementi, CEO

Our Governance & Ethics
Supported by management assurance and the oversight of an engaged Board, we will operate our business with a demonstrable commitment to the highest level of ethical corporate conduct on a daily basis.
This commitment is reinforced by strong policies and practices related to fair, ethical and honest business dealings. Robust governance, a strong risk framework and compliance with applicable laws underscores our commitment. We demonstrate respect for human rights at Pool Re and seek to establish the same throughout our network of service providers.
As a Public-Private Partnership we seek to collaborate with both the insurance industry and His Majesty’s Government to support the objective of building a more sustainable long-term future.

Our People
We commit to provide market-competitive compensation and benefits, maintaining fair labour practices and ensure a healthy working environment that reflects our core values and culture.
We believe we are at our best when we bring together different perspectives, experience and ideas. We strive to create a workplace in which there is mutual trust and respect and encourage everyone to feel responsible for the performance and reputation of the company. We respect one another and each other’s individual rights and customs. We work towards achieving a diverse and inclusive workforce, recruiting, employing and promoting people only on the basis of objective criteria and the qualifications and abilities needed for the job to be performed.
We promote integrity and professionalism, and seek to lead by example which we do by setting the right tone from the top of the organisation. We support our colleagues professional development and long-term career growth and recognise and reward colleagues who perform well.

Our Communities
Although a small organisation we recognise that Pool Re can do more beyond business operations, and where possible seek to make positive contributions to the wider community.
We encourage our people to support their local communities, whether it is time, effort, or a financial contribution. Our key focus are the community, education and the environment. Our support is delivered through initiatives that:
- Help local communities and those in need
- Support the more vulnerable in society
- Underpin social cohesion initiatives designed to reduce or prevent violent extremism

Our Environment
We are committed to operating our business in a way that demonstrates our dedication to global environmental sustainability. This commitment includes:
- Improving our environmental performance across all aspects of the business, including reinsurance, investments and the work environment
- Working with our counterparties and suppliers with similar dedication to global environmental sustainability
We are committed to reaching a NetZero carbon neutral position by 2050 and have either established, or are seeking to establish, milestones and metrics to measure and monitor our journey to reach this goal.
our initiatives
We recognise that, as responsible social citizens, we have a duty to ensure that day-to-day business practices are undertaken ethically, environmentally, sustainably and in a socially responsible manner.
Guided by a dedicated internal working group, our business operates through highly ethical policies and practices, and continues to strive to identify new schemes and initiatives to grow our commitment to Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) best practice.
Our ambition remains to develop a range of programmes which both inspire and engage our employees, Members and wider stakeholders, whilst at the same time creating maximum social impact by making a meaningful difference to the well-being of others.
These are some of the initiatives and memberships we are proud to be part of:

UN Principles for Responsible Investment
As institutional investors, we have a duty to act in the best long-term interests of our beneficiaries. In this fiduciary role, we believe that environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) issues can affect the performance of investment portfolios (to varying degrees across companies, sectors, regions, asset classes and through time). We also recognise that applying these Principles may better align investors with broader objectives of society.

CDP Member
CDP is a not-for-profit charity that runs the global disclosure system for investors, companies, cities, states and regions to manage their environmental impacts. The world’s economy looks to CDP as the gold standard of environmental reporting with the richest and most comprehensive dataset on corporate and city action.

Living Wage Employer
By paying the real Living Wage, employers are voluntarily taking a stand to ensure their employees can earn a wage which is enough to live on. That basic fairness is at the heart of what the Living Wage campaign is trying to achieve and why great businesses and organisations choose to go further than the government minimum. This means that we have committed to pay the REAL Living Wage to all our directly employed staff as well as our contractors.
