[In-Person] 2022 Pool Re Market Event

11 October 2022 @ 8:30 am - 10:45 am

The 2022 Pool Re Annual Market Event

We would like to thank all our guests who came to the 2022 Pool Re Annual Market event and for our incredible line-up of speakers for sharing their expertise, experiences and insights.
You can download the presentation from the Market event below:
Key Discussions:
Modernising our Scheme: The terrorism threat landscape is changing. Contemporary threats now include cyber, biological, radiological and nuclear perils. How do we keep pace and continue to provide terrorism cover fit for the modern insurance marketplace?
SME resilience: The pandemic highlighted the vulnerability of SME’s to unexpected events. Without Government support many would not have withstood the long periods of closure. How do we have conversations about the comparable impact a terrorist event might have on their business to drive greater awareness and penetration of terrorism cover for SME’s?
Protect Duty: How will the proposed “Protect Duty” improve public security from terrorist attacks? And what do we know about the likely implications on businesses and the insurance industry?

Speaker Announcements

Figen Murray OBE

Figen Murray OBE : Leading Protect Duty Campaigner

We are delighted to welcome Figen Murray to the stage to discuss the Protect Duty, and how this will mandate operators of the spaces in which people live, work and socialise to take greater steps to ensure the security of the people they serve.

Figen is the principle force behind Martyn’s Law, a powerful piece of legislation in memory of Martyn Hett, Figens son, who was one of the 22 people killed in the devastating Manchester Arena terrorist attack in 2017. The forthcoming legislation looks set to mandate publicly accessible locations to improve security against the threat of terrorism. Figen has been presented with the Outstanding Contribution award at the 2020 Counter Terror Awards for her efforts in stopping terrorism, and her dedication and work in counter terrorism also saw her awarded an OBE in the 2022 New Year’s Honours List.

Tom Hurd OBE

Tom Hurd CB OBE: Former Director General for Office for Security and Counter Terrorism

Tom Hurd served as the most senior Homeland Security Advisor to the last four Home Secretaries. He led work across government countering terrorism, state threats, cybercrime and security, disinformation, money laundering, online harms and child sexual exploitation. He also oversaw the domestic operations of the intelligence agencies, CT Police and the National Crime Agency. During his thirty years working on national security, Tom has played a leading role on international as well as domestic security issues, especially within the Five Eyes community. Tom was also a member of the UK’s Joint Intelligence Committee, the UK’s most senior analytical body on national security issues. In mid-2020 Tom set up from scratch, and at pace, the UK’s Joint Biosecurity Centre, a data-led organisation that brought data science and public health expertise together in one place to spot earlier and more accurately outbreaks of COVID-19. He was appointed OBE by Her Majesty in 2011 and CB in 2020 for his services to national security.

Protect Duty Panel

Our expert panel will discuss the approaching Protect Duty legislation, what led to its development and what are the likely impacts on the insurance industry and on businesses and policyholders across the UK.
